Texas Tech - a gift - from above

Click on the pic to zoom in.

Another debt of thanks to Scotty at TV TanLine who sends his best to DT! readers with the above gift...

While I can't be exactly sure when the photo was taken, it appears that it was after the United Spirit Arena was built, but before the Garage Mahal.

I can almost exactly make out where I ran from the "rape van" after it caught me taking pictures in front of the Seal at University and Broadway. Why do I say that I was "caught?" Well.... I, along with three of my dorm mates, was wearing only a well placed gym sock in a bit of a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute. Which is funny because they were doing a tribute of sorts of another famous band...

If you know the name of said album - or what I'm talking about of all - you're gaining a better idea of the years that I attended Tech...

Great pic - thanks again to Scotty...

DT! I had a great conversation with an old friend of mine today, Chris "Sneader" Snead. He may not have quite believed that I am Bond J Bond, so I wanted to give him a "shout out" so he knows I wasn't trying to pull his leg.

I think I also convinced him to give DT! readers what they want - an interview with him so he can fill us in on the progress with the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

If by "Garage Mahal" you mean the parking garage, It's already there. This photo was taken after December '06 (my graduation) because they are in the process of constructing the 9th street overpass, and they have already planted the trees/shrubs at memorial circle. Nice photo, though.

Yup, winter '06 looks about right. prior to them starting construction on the new law/business stuff, after the new student health and experimental sciences buildings were completed.

(and right around the time of my graduation as well)

s.s. -

I haven't been back to the campus since about 1999 - I thought the Garage Mahal was put in at the corner of 19th and Boston?

So that soccer field/open area is still there?

I used to play Sunday night pick-up soccer at 19th and Boston - I wonder if that game still happens...

Yeah, the parking garage is at the southeast corner of 18th and Flint. Its to the left of those two identical looking dorms (can't recall any names) to the South of the Architorture building, and to the right of those tall dorms (again, can't remember names.) The soccer field is still there, don't know about any pickup games, but I think somewhere in that open area around Merket is where the new Business School is going up.

go to http://www.fpc.ttu.edu/index.cfm to see how the campus is being changed. In it you have previous projects, current projects, coming projects, and potential projects.

No word on the next phase of Jones stadium improvements. The only future one is referring to the field improvements completed in 2006.

The fact that the Marsha Sharp Freeway is being worked on means this photo is recent (last 3-4 years).

The garage is built (right next to Hulen/Clement).

if you look at the baseball field i believe that this picture was taken this past winter, because the entire field is already field turf.

This was taken very recently. Murray is there as well as the student health building near C-Wells. Trees are planted in the circle and the Law has the new turf. Actually.. most of the construction on campus is finished in this picture other than the freeway.
